The 44th International Seaplane Fly-in takes place on Moosehead Lake in Greenville, Maine in September. It is a non-profit organization that brings thousands of participants and spectators to the Moosehead region the weekend after Labor Day.
Over the years I’ve had listings in the area (with two currently, see below) and have been on a seaplane ride over Moosehead. It is absolutely breathtaking! Below are a few images from that ride. The top photo shows the public landing and just to the right you’ll see a couple of white seaplanes. That’s where I took off with Currier’s Flying Service.
Greenville Inn, once an historic lumber baron’s mansion, sits high above on Norris Street at a great vantage point to watch the activity. But they’re a 4 minute stroll to the public town dock where the Steamship Katahdin is docked.
Chalet Moosehead Lakefront Motel is another listing of mine in Greenville. It sits on Moosehead Lake just around the bend from Currier’s Air Service. It offers a completely different experience than the stunning Greenville Inn. It’s a 26 unit motel with a dock, paddle boats, kayaks and canoes for the water sports enthusiasts.
If you are the outdoor enthusiast type who loves summer and winter, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, moose watching, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice fishing, skiing and a wonderful mix of unspoiled nature with just enough tourism, a lodging property in the Moosehead Region just might be for you.
